Joint Letter on Restoring Access to the BC Government Directory
CHBA BC joined industry partners in penning a letter encouraging that access be restored to the BC Government employee directory. Public access to the directory was ended in August due to “cybersecurity and privacy concerns”. CHBA BC and partner organizations expressed concerns on grounds of transparency, among others. Read the full letter here.
BC Government Seeks Your Feedback on US Tariffs
The BC Government is seeking feedback as part of their efforts to defend British Columbians and our industries against the threat of U.S. tariffs and countervailing tariff measures.
Wanted: Your Expertise to Shape Future Building Code CHBA BC is seeking members with experience in home modifications that improve accessibility/adaptability and aging in place. Your practical, on-the-ground expertise will help inform building code changes under development to ensure they are workable in real homes.
Home modifications include:
Wider doorways to allow easier access for mobility aids, e.g. a walker or wheelchair
Power door operators to enable people who cannot open a door independently
Modifying kitchen and bathroom spaces to improve accessibility and mobility
Have experience designing or building these types of modifications? Email CHBA BC’s Director, Technical and Building Innovation: pauline@chbabc.org.
New Wildfire Resilience Measures
The Resilient Homes Task Force (RHTF) is a collaborative initiative between the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR) and the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA), whose goal is to support the residential construction industry and inform Canadians about cost-effective ways to reduce the risk of damage from extreme weather and catastrophic events.
The Task Force has developed tiered residential construction guidelines that allow for incremental adoption of resilience practices by the Canadian home building, renovation, and insurance industries.
This newsletter is exclusive for Canadian Home Builders' Association of BC (CHBA BC) members.
