CHBA BC Submission on Prompt Payment Regulations
On July 7, CHBA BC submitted a letter as part of its ongoing consultation on the suite of policies and regulations for the Construction Prompt Payment Act. The consultation process began in late May with the Government’s release of the Discussion Paper. In our submission, we advocate on behalf of our members for, among others:
- Phased and delayed implementation over a number of years, beginning with public sector projects,
- Regulation so that the counting of days under this legislation does not include non-business days nor holidays (i.e. the legislated 28-day pay period equates to 28 business days),
- The provision of education/training opportunities, such as webinars and guidance materials to support the industry transition, to be made available in advance of implementation, and
- The establishment of an adjudication authority and adjudicator registry equivalent to the one implemented in Ontario.

BC to Grant $9 Million to Local Governments to Fast-Track Development Approvals
On July 6, the Province announced a total of $9 million will be granted to 56 local governments across the province, through the Local Government Develop Approvals Program. These grants are intended to help local governments develop innovative ways to improve development-approval processes to help non-profit housing organizations, developers and other stakeholders deliver homes quicker and increase housing supply.
