Happening Now: Day at the Legislature

Our delegates from across B.C. are in Victoria for Day at the Legislature 2026 and are engaged in active conversations with key MLAs and Ministers focused on housing solutions.

Over the course of two days and dozens of meetings, including with Premier David Eby and a roundtable with Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs Christine Boyle, our member-delegates from all eight local associations will discuss the issues that matter most to our members and to advocate for our policy priorities.

Watch for a detailed recap of the event coming soon.

Visit the Day at the Legislature page on our website to read about the policy recommendations we're advocating for in Victoria.

Natural Resource Permitting Updates

The Government of British Columbia has announced regulatory amendments to update permitting requirements in four natural-resource-related areas.

CHBA BC participated in the Fall 2025 consultation process and submitted letters after each phase in October (Phase 1) and December (Phase 2) advocating for the following, among others: further targeted consultation with industry and professional regulators regarding mitigation hierarchy requirements including in-lieu payments; the development of wetlands delineation mapping; and the clarification of permit application requirements to prevent unnecessary delays for builders.

BC Government and Cowichan Nation’s Joint Statement

On March 2, the provincial government and the Cowichan Nation released a joint statement announcing they are currently in negotiations following the BC Supreme Court’s declaration recognizing that Cowichan Nation holds Aboriginal title to lands at Tl’utqinus, located in what is now the City of Richmond.

As part of the joint statement, both the provincial government and Cowichan Nation stated, “The Cowichan Nation respectfully did not seek to invalidate any privately held fee simple titles… For transparency, neither the Cowichan Nation nor British Columbia are seeking to invalidate any privately held fee simple titles on the Cowichan Title Lands through the negotiation or appeal processes.”
